A community park in Boyle Heights: Integrating equity and diversity by paying homage to its past
Due to its minority and low-income demographic, Boyle Heights has historically been riddled with systemic racism and discrimination in many forms, not least of which is access to public open space. Although Boyle Heights is currently 93% Hispanic, that was not always the case. It has a striking history of diversity as one of the only housing communities in the early 1900s that did not discriminate against people of color.

By recognizing the historic Boyle Heights communities, issues of equity & diversity will be addressed in a culturally rich community park design that connects past to present.
