SCASLA Achievement Award
The judges highlighted the project’s strong research and analysis, with clear concepts and diagrams that were easy to understand. The evocative “Woven Basket” theme and precedent images brought a strong sense of place, while creative ideas like the tower walk stood out, even if they felt grand in scale. The sections and visuals were compelling, and the narrative showed thoughtful intent. Overall, a beautifully presented project with strong vision and creativity.
The Arena Park project will restore a decommissioned section of the El Segundo Energy Center, formerly the site of two massive fuel tanks, back to the towering dunes and chaparral hillsides that once occupied the site, creating a thriving public space for conservation and recreation.
About
Josep Ferrer Miranda
A life-long passion for writing, music and visual media led Josep to a career in marketing and communications. His desire to make a positive impact and explore new challenges eventually led him to Greywater Corps, a Los Angeles-based design/build firm specializing in reclaimed greywater and rainwater irrigation systems.
As Communications Manager and Marketing Director at Greywater Corps, he was able to raise the profile of the company, developing a large, dedicated following by telling the story of its unique mission. Through this work he found a vast community of people that connected deeply with the idea of making the world a better place one plot of land at a time.
He also had the privilege of working with many forward-thinking designers, environmental advocates, and clients – all of whom inspired him to pursue landscape architecture as a means of amplifying the impact of environmental work. While one intervention can make a difference, the effects are multiplied when we design systems that work together for the common goals of sustainability, beauty, and joy.
